FIBA Olympic Qualifying Games: Gilas Pilipinas and Tissot as the Official FIBA Timekeeper

Tissot will be the official timekeeper of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Games which will be held in SM MOA Arena from July 5 to 10. National teams from the Philippines, Canada, New Zealand, France, Turkey, and Senegal will compete for a shot at the Rio Olympics 2016. The six teams are divided into two brackets. Turkey, Senegal, and Canada comprise Group A while France, New Zealand, and the Philippines round out Group B.

Gilas Pilipinas’ group is also dubbed as the “Group of Death” so they will rely heavily on the support of basketball-loving Filipinos who are expected to go all out in cheering for the home team. A win by Gilas will be historic since it will be the first time in 44 years that a Philippine basketball team will play in the Olympics. The country last competed for Olympics basketball honors was in 1972 in Munich, Germany.

Renowned for its excellent Swiss craftsmanship, Tissot is again expected to deliver a dependable and state-of-the-art performance in timekeeping in all FIBA matches. From years of exceptional watchmaking tradition since 1853, Tissot is able to meld traditional techniques with modern features to create not only aesthetically beautiful but also functional watches.

FIBA’s partnership with Tissot dates back to 2008.
