Yes, the people over at Facebook CAN check your account without needing your password.Â
But don’t go freaking out and camping outside the Facebook headquarters just yet!!
This is apparently part of a tiered and strictly managed customer support setup, where employees who abuse this trust are automatically fired, according to a report by VentureBeat.
The report also said that this access is given to a very select number of employees, only to carry out specific job responsibilities such as responding to bug reports, or answering customer support inquiries. Reportedly, two separate systems are being used to detect suspicious patterns of behavior. These systems produce reports once per week, which are reviewed by two independent security teams.
According to VentureBeat, Facebook also stressed that this system also requires consent from the user before the customer service team can access their accounts. Those who violate this are automatically terminated.
That makes things easier to digest for us, we suppose… as long as it’s all for the name of good!
