6 Hilarious Common Expectations About Working At A Call Center

There are heaps of misconceptions about working at a call center. The industry, however, remains the pleasant choice for most Filipinos because of its promising salary rate.

6 Misconceptions of Working at a Call Center

From the excerpt of the controversial Teleserye, “The Borrowed Wife.”

Not to mention, the privileges and training that could help enhance one’s communication and/or leadership skills.

Most often than not, people’s expectations of call center workers are ridiculous. They thought call center workers don’t have fashion sense since they all basically, look the same – haggard!

So, my dear friend Donna and I compiled some of the expectations vs. reality images that best depict how call center workers are being judged at times.

6. Expectation: No dress code.

Reality: If I’m not mistaken, everyone in the call center must adhere to dress code policy. Most of the centers implement corporate attire on weekdays and casual wear on Fridays and weekends.

5. Expectation: Call center workers are always stressed and mad.

Reality: In reality, most agents follow guidelines to achieve the quality of each call. One of which is to empathize and to listen carefully so they can address the issue properly. Therefore, they can’t be mad while on a call, only after. LOL.

4. Expectation: Call center industry can’t achieve work-life balance.

Reality: They do enjoy life too! Most of the time, they travel and eat out with family and friends!

3. Expectation: Most call center workers are unhealthy.

Reality: Gone are the days when call center agents are known as the people with a sedentary lifestyle. While there are still a few, most call center workers are now into healthy living. Essentially, they offer gym membership cards and/or serve healthy meals at the pantry. Personally, I am glad that centers are becoming health advocates. They look after the health of their frontliners, who are also great providers of their family.

2. Haggard Looking when they feel fresh and happy!

Most of the people expect call center workers haggard because they don’t have a proper sleeping pattern. In reality, they could also look fresh!

1. People think higher pay means they can’t be resourceful. LOL #richvsresourceful

As we all know, call center workers go to work at night. Although, day shift schedules are already acceptable, the majority still caters to night shifts. So, to help them become more productive, companies offer free-flowing coffee and water! So, why buy when you can have it free, right? 🙂
