The sports facilities at New Clark City are indeed world-class.
According to Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon, teams from Eastern and Central Europe are thinking of training for the 2020 Olympics at New Clark City.
Dizon said, “Right now, we have already been getting feelers from countries abroad who want to train in the New Clark City in preparation for Tokyo 2020 because they have to acclimatize, they have to practice in the heat, and they have to get used to the time zone. They’re already approaching us.”
He added that there’s a possibility that it will be the venue for the Asian Swimming Championships.
It’s no wonder that there’s strong interest in the sports facilities. It features an eight-lane training pool and a 10-lane Olympic pool patterned after the 2012 Olympics in London. There’s also an open-air athletics stadium that can seat 20,000 people, and an athlete’s village that can accommodate hundreds of participants.
The facility was built in record time in just 18 months, as opposed to the estimated three years. According to MTD Philippines president Nikko David, “it was tested by a certified international body.”
The sports facilities at New Clark City are currently the venue for track and field and water sports for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
