You don’t want to anger the “sublime paralytic”.
Actor Epy Quizon, who plays the paralytic and “Brains of the Katipunan” Apolinario Mabini in the film HENERAL LUNA, took to posting on his Facebook a photo of him holding a pirated copy of the movie, with the caption “Sarili pinili nyo eh!!!”
This is in reference to a popular line in the film uttered by Heneral Luna himself, “Negosyo o kalayan? Bayan o sarili? Pumili ka!!” (Business or freedom? The nation or yourself? Make your choice!!) Epy is seen sitting on a chair just like his character, and boy, he does NOT look happy.
Just recently, Epy has made social media headlines after posting about several youth wondering why his character, Mabini, was “always seated throughout the movie”, to which he wondered what schools were teaching in history classes nowadays and why the young ones don’t seem to know who Mabini was.
HENERAL LUNA initially struggled to stay in theaters due to upcoming mainstream and foreign films, but managed a breakthrough and ended up grossing P100 million in theaters this September 27. Bankrolled by a group led by Fernando Ortigas, the film had a budget of P200 million, and needs P100 million more to break even, AND to continue with its planned sequels on Gen. Del Pilar and Pres. Manuel Quezon.
