ENTERTAINMENT: There’s Finally A Gender-Free Acting Award And Emma Watson Won!

Gone are the days of “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” in awards shows. Thanks to a historical event by MTV, we are now judging actors based on their acting skills and looking beyond their gender.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards got rid of the separation between actors and actresses when it came to acting awards, being the first to do so. Both males and females were nominated for “Best Actor.”

Hailee Steinfeld, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Taraji P. Henson, David Kaluuya, and Emma Watson were all up against each other for the historic award, but the Golden Popcorn went to the Beauty and the Beast star, Emma Watson.

The actress was honored to have been given the award, and was more than glad with the new things happening in the entertainment industry.

“The first acting award in history that doesn’t separate nominees based on their sex says something about how we perceive the human experience,” she said in her speech.

Along with Emma, Stranger Thing‘s lead actress, Millie Bobby Brown, also took home the historic award of “Best Actor in A Show.”

While some people are skeptical about whether or not there is a need for a gender-free awards show, it’s no doubt that this is indeed a historic event. Plus, we think that the winner truly deserved it.
