According to Comicbook.com, Ross Butler, who plays Reggie, can no longer commit to more episodes of Riverdale come Season 2 (see this!), as confirmed by executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as they are now looking for a new Reggie.

According to a statement Aguirre-Sacasa reported to TVLine, he says “We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked.”

Ross Butler is also cast in another Netflix Original Series, Thirteen Reasons Why where he plays Zach Dempsey. The series is also expected to be renewed for a second season. With Butler’s major role in the series, he can no longer further commit to other acting stints such as Riverdale.

“[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best,” Aguirre-Sacasa finishes.

We’re sad to see Ross Butler leave Riverdale, but we’re looking forward to seeing more of him in Thirteen Reasons Why!

As of writing, the show is expected to release its eleventh episode which goes live on Netflix this Friday, Manila time.
