No, Steve isn’t dead, contrary to the popular death hoax after leaving the show.
90’s (and perhaps early 2000’s kids) would recall Nickelodeon’s animated television series “Blues Clues”, that aired from 1996 to 2006. The show was about a blue dog named Blue and a human owner trying to decipher “Blue’s Clues” to solve the mystery or the riddle of the day.
Blue’s owners included Steve and Joe, where the former was the show’s first host followed by the latter. They were brothers on the show.
But after Blue’s Clues concluded, what happened to the two brothers? Did they carry on with showbiz? Or shift careers?
Steve Burns …
carried on with his real first name on the show. The actor was only 23 years old when he snagged the lead role of Blue’s companion. He was a part of Blue’s Clues from 1996 to 2002, which were a good five seasons. He passed the torch to Donovan Patton who played Joe.
It was reported that the real reason why Burns quit the show because he felt it was “simply time to go”. He also shared that his hair loss was also another factor.
‘I was pretty much playing a boyish, older-brotherish kind of character on the show. I was getting older; I was losing my hair,” he said in a report to Daily Mail UK.  ‘A lot of the original gangsters on the show, like the people who created it were all moving on to other careers. It just felt like time. I just had a gut feeling like it was time to go.”
Burns then has been doing voice-overs and embarking on a career in music, according to Daily Mail UK.
Burns had released an album “Songs for Dustmites” with his own indie band, “Steve Burns and the Struggle”. They also produced a second album “Deep Sea Recovery Efforts” that was released 6 years after the first. Burns was also able to release a third album with one of his members and friends, Steven Drodz, entitled “Foreverywhere”, which was a “new kids album” that took twelve years to make.
Burns found humor among the death hoaxes about him, including a car accident and drug overdose. However, he did reveal in an interview with Tech Insider that “to be rumored dead for 15 years starts to feel disturbingly like a cultural preference. (…) The worst one was that I died in a Dodge Charger. That one got me because I mean, dude. I would never drive a Charger.” He used the Twitter and Instagram handles “@steveburnsalive” to make his presence felt and to confirm with curious fans that he was very much alive, but as of writing, both accounts are deactivated.
He also said that he still has the original Thinking Chair with him as a gift on his 25th birthday by the Blue’s Clues producers, as well as the Notebook, as well as “a couple of the shirts that don’t really fit anymore”.
Burns featured in a music video of one of his songs of his latest album, “The Unicorn and Princess Rainbow”.
Donovan Patton
… who played Joe in Blue’s Clues, took over the show in 2002 after Steve’s departure until it ended in 2006. He initially thought Blue’s Clues was a show about blues music, according to International Business Times. Patton had never seen the show prior to his audition.
Patton voiced ‘Bot’ for another Nickelodeon kids show called Teem Umizoomi in 2010. He played short roles both in film and on television, such as short film Beyond Relief, drama series Blue Bloods and thriller film Black Wine. He also lent his voice for video games like Lego Jurassic World, Grand Theft Auto V and Halo 5: Guardians.
Patton was involved with charity work for Literacy Inc and was able to participate in “a few events with Make A Wish Foundation”, to which he regards as a “life changing experience”.
“There’s nothing in the world that’s just something that’s amazing on the human level. There’s not even anything as a performer like that, it’s just a life changing experience,” he says in an interview. “And I’ve been able to go by in the Joe outfit to the [Columbia Presbyterian] Hospital a few times.”
Patton is now 39 years old, married, and a father to two daughters. He will be acting in 2017 film “The Broken Ones”.
