ENTERTAINMENT: Filipina Is the New ‘Vietnam Idol’

On Friday, a Filipina becomes the first foreigner to win “Vietnam Idol.”

Bohol-native Janice Buco, 28, who goes by the stage name Janice Phuong, became the champion of the seventh season of “Vietnam Idol.”

She won over 22-year-old local, Viet Thang, from the Northern Province of Hai Duong.

Janice won a prize money amounting to 600 million Vietnamese dong (approximately P1.2 Million).

Before joining “Vietnam Idol,” Janice performed in many bars with her Vietnamese husband, Minh Que. Her husband was her band mate and is a flamenco guitarist.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Janice had an impromptu audience where she sang a Vietnamese song, “Cam On Tinh Yeu” (Thank you, my love). During the audition, they requested for her to sing Filipino songs “Anak (Offspring)” and “Sa Ugoy ng Duyan (In the Rocking of the Cradle)”.

She performed “Hello Vietnam” in the finals.
