We’re just as sad as you are when we heard that this year’s Sakura viewing was canceled in Japan because of the impending 2019 Coronavirus. But not to worry, cause we found a milk tea shop that replicates the very same flower viewing experience.

The name? Sakura Hanami.

A local milk tea concept that aims to bring back that Japanese touch to Manila, Sakura Hanami’s storefront is decked out in various shades of pink. Pink flowers hang all around the ceiling and walls, much like the draping blossoms from the sakura tree— with white marble tables and plush pink couches for guests to make themselves comfortable.

According to the owner, Sakura Hanami is an afternoon tea experience modeled after the cherry blossom viewing tradition in Japan. A place for friends and family to come together, Sakura Hanami offers a wide range of milk teas, fruit juices, tea-based drinks, and even hot teas, which come in clear glass pots with double-walled cups.

Must-haves include their Lava Pearl Latte, a brown sugar milk drink with a distinct roasted brown sugar taste compared to other variants. Their milk is light— not too thick and cloying. Their Cherry Blossom Fizz is a refreshing soda drink made with real cherry blossoms from Japan, which have a sour-salty taste, just like plum. This, paired with the sweet taste of the soda, make it a delicious bubbly drink. And what is an experience in Sakura Hanami without trying their Traditional Cherry Blossom Hot Tea? It’s a soothing drink that uses the same sakura blossoms from Japan, which means that it has a distinct sour-salty and slightly sweet taste sans the caffeine that most teas have.

And what’s afternoon tea without food? Just recently, Sakura Hanami offers an array of sweet and savory dishes to pair with your drinks. Savory snacks come in the form of nachos and a pepperoni pie, while the sweets feature your choice of donuts or cake.

Sakura Hanami currently has branches along Banawe and Maginhawa in Quezon City, near Taft and Sampaloc for the Manila folk.
