Elizabeth Ramsey: The Philippines’ Queen of Rock and Roll Dies at 83

Another talented and versatile actress-singer Elizabeth Ramsey has joined our Creator yesterday.

She was 83. According to her daughter, Jaya, her mom passed away peacefully in her sleep.  On Jaya’s personal Facebook account, she posted: “Mama Beth is now with our Lord… 83 years has been full. Love and laughter, she has given not just our family but the whole nation.”

Her friends in the industry were also saddened and expressed their condolences and sympathies on Twitter:

Elizabeth’s trademark of witty comments, Visayan-accent dialogues, and making funny faces, can absolutely make the crowd laugh out loud. On a personal note, my mom and I loved her as well, as she was definitely a legendary comedienne and actress.

Truly, the industry has lost another amazing talent.

She was last seen during the first season of Your Face Sounds Familiar, where Melai Cantiveros performed her infamous song, Waray-Waray and was hailed as the first grand winner of the said show.

She became famous after winning a singing contest in Student Canteen (the first noontime show on Philippine Television) in 1958.

Elizabeth Ramsey was indeed a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. You will be missed. Rest in Peace.
