Until his bout with Shinya Aoki, Eduard Folayang was the underdog.
In a surprising turn of events, the Team Lakay fighter made history as he brought down MMA favorite Aoki and claimed the lightweight title in ONE: Defending Honor at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Folayang put an end to Aoki’s four-year winning streak, where he was undefeated for nine fights. Folayang, whose score improved to 17-15, became the third Filipino champ after Brandon “The Truth” Vera and fellow Team Lakay member, Honorio Banario.
