The tough-talking president wants peace, not war.
President Rodrigo Duterte said that his first job as an elected leader and commander-in-chief was not to go to war but to bring peace, according to local reports.
Duterte said this during his speech at the military honors given to him by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, saying that he has been busy talking to different sectors in efforts to bring peace to the country.
The president has reportedly met with members of the New People’s Army (NPA), the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), where in he also asked his friend, MNLF founder Nur Misuari, if the battles between the government and the rebels would continue.
