Don’t Drive, Just Drink: A Beer Below Zero Campaign Supporting the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act

It’s Friday, the week has been nothing but stressful and exhausting, and you find yourself being invited to hang out with your barkada at a pub in the Fort right after work. So you take off your tie, loosen a few buttons, and drive over to meet up with a group of guys you haven’t seen in a while. It’s a great way to let off some steam and unwind, right? Drinking is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Put together yummy food, great company, and some Beer Below Zero and you’ve got yourself a killer combo of the good life.

But too much of something, no matter how good it makes you feel, can be bad. Take for instance drinking too much, and then driving after. Whether it was just a couple of beers, it can still be hazardous.

Because of this, Beer Below Zero, the pioneering group behind the frosty, extremely cold beers that have swept the country by storm, launched a new campaign to remind beer lovers that drinking and driving can result in serious consequences. With this initiative, Beer Below Zero affirms its support of the recently passed Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.

We’re all aware of the saying: Don’t drink and drive. It’s probably common knowledge not just in the Philippines but the rest of the world. And yet, drunk driving remains to be one of the leading causes of death among young people everywhere. Despite the risks involved, drunk driving still persists because of ignorance, personal limits, or pride. (Okay lang, pare! I’m not yet drunk!) None of these excuses are valid, which is why strict laws are implemented to discourage everyone from driving under the influence.

As of January 2013, the updated Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act has been approved by the Senate, stating that “Drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs but have not caused any physical injury or homicide shall face three months imprisonment.” For incidents involving fatalities, the minimum prison sentence is 12 years.

With its aim to raise awareness of this act to reduce the number of accidents caused by drunk driving, Beer Below Zero advises everyone to: “Don’t drive. Just drink!”
