Dogs in Need of Pet Rescue: Do Your Part!

Dogs in Need of Pet Rescue: Do Your Part!

When in Manila, we hear about heartwarming stories of compassion. But sometimes we hear chilling stories of people’s absolute coldness of heart, too. For Blade, he was almost a casualty of this lack of compassion. For three days he was tied up in a corner, his two hind legs cut off, slowly rotting,  just waiting to die. People walked past him–until one did not.

An animal welfare and rescue group, the Philippine Animal Rescue Team (PART) received a report and rushed to locate Blade, found him, and brought him to a vet. Read the story of how he was rescued below. The group is now calling for donations and your help is badly and immediately needed, so that they can save Blade’s life. Donation details are at the end of this post.

Story was taken from PART’s Facebook page.

Dogs in Need of Pet Rescue: Do Your Part!

A dog was reported to us today, tied in a corner of a street in Sampaloc Manila; reporter said both his hind legs were sawed off. One look at the photo we received in the report and we were off and running to locate his whereabouts. What greeted us was beyond heartbreaking. The dog was tied in a corner, sitting and soaking in his own urine. His hind legs were badly cut off, exposing flesh and bones. Flies were swarming on his open wound and he smelled like rotting flesh. People walking past him as if he didn’t exist. People gathered around to tell us that he was hit by a passing train but nobody knew who owns the dog or who left him there. Someone tied him in that corner and left him there to rot and die instead of getting him to the vet. Someone picked him up and tied him down and yet not a single person saw anything or anyone. And the ultimate shocker is…he’s been in that condition for 3 days! 3 days!!! No shade! No food, no water! And not one person had it in their heart to help him! Not one, single person. Not an ounce of compassion. Three long days he was left in pain and suffering. Just another stray dog whose life didn’t matter to those who saw him and kept on walking.

BLADE, as we now call him, was rushed to our vet. Even though we are already beyond our maximum limit for rescues we weren’t about to turn a blind eye to someone who desperately needed our help. We weren’t about to say no to the opportunity to save a life because we believe that EVERY LIFE MATTERS.

Blade’s condition is complicated, although the good news is he’s negative for Distemper. He’s positive for Ehrlichia, for which he has begun treatment. Both hind legs, however, have experienced severe trauma and although x-rays are still pending, our vet and staff managed to clean and bandage his wound. Inflammation, infection, and necrosis is very apparent.

Sadly, both hind legs will need to be amputated as shattered bones are apparent on both hind legs. Amputation will likely be done at the ankle level to allow Blade the use of prosthetics. His surgery and ongoing treatment will be very expensive and at some point we will need to get him fitted for prosthetics. But despite his condition, Blade was happy to see us. He wagged his tail and gave us a smile that only a dog grateful to be saved can give. For all of us at PART, that smile is worth every penny we will spend to make him whole again. And we will make him whole again.

We need every help we can get for Blade. We’re still struggling with Marsha’s medical funds, but we knew that we had to help Blade. Now we’re asking for your help. Please help us pay for his surgery and treatment.

To those who turn a blind eye to animals in need…

How would you feel if you were left to die on the side of the road and for three days people walked past you, but not a single soul offered to help? Is this the world we are leaving our children and grandchildren in – a world devoid of compassion? How do we expect to progress if we have no respect for other living things? The absent of action from every single person that saw this dog and chose to let him suffer for three days is beyond disgusting…it’s unacceptable. And people’s typical excuse is they don’t want to get involved or they don’t have the money to take the dog to a vet. People can find a way to buy the latest iPhone, iPad, designer handbags and shoes, but can’t find a way to save a life? It’s sad, pathetic, and utterly disgusting.

How did those people who saw him every day sleep at night? Are these souls void of any compassion? It’s something none of us can ever fathom, but the truth is: no answer will ever be good enough. No answer will ever be acceptable. Not to us.

Thank you to admin Weng Suzara and her daughter, CJ, for rushing to rescue Blade. Blade also wants to thank CJ for giving him such a fine name. Thank you to the reporter for contacting us. #SaveALife #EveryLifeMatters
