Don’t fret, Mavericks fans — Nowitzki is holding out to the idea, admitting that his dream is to play until 2018, celebrating 20 years wth the Dallas Mavericks!

The 38-year-old German, who has been with the Mavs since 1998, is a 13-time NBA All-Star and was the Finals’ MVP during the team’s championship year in 2011.

Yet Nowitzki maybe coming to the end of his career, as he is currently struggling with an Achilles tendon ailment, and has been out of the court since November 25.

Speaking to German magazine Sport Bild, Nowitzki said:

“Actually, my plan is to complete the 20 years and play for Dallas until 2018. But just because I have signed a two-year contract doesn’t automatically mean that I will play for two years. It could happen next year. If things don’t go so well and it hurts everywhere, it could be that 2017 will be the end.”
