Deutsche Woche 2015: UP Deutscher Verein German Week

The UP Deutscher Verein (UP German Club) celebrates 25 years of promoting German language and culture within and beyond the confines of the university on Mar. 3-7, 2015 through its flagship event Deutsche Woche (German Week).

A week-long exhibit will feature four of the most celebrated festivals in Germany at Galleria 1 Faculty Center. To truly bring the Oktoberfest (Octoberfest), Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market), Wurstmarkt (Sausage Market) and Fasching (Carnival) in the university, organization members will be dressed in different colorful costumes while giving out freebies after the opening program at CM Recto, Faculty Center on Mar. 3, 2015. In the afternoon, students will battle out their knowledge about Germany in Kennen Sie Deutschland?  (Do you know Germany?) Quiz Bee at CAL 411, 4:00pm.

Speakers from different fields and disciplines will talk about the opportunities in Germany and the unique aspects of the German Culture at CAL 309 on Mar. 4, 10:00am. Wurst Eating Contest (Sausage Eating Contest) will be held in the afternoon featuring the most delicious sausages in the different towns in Germany at Hardin ng mga Diwata, 4:00pm.

The organization will also offer a free screening of Rubbel Die Katz (Woman in Love) at CAL 409 on Mar. 5, 1:00pm.

To cap-off the celebration in the university, UP Deutscher Verein members, students, and faculty will march around the Academic Oval for Volksparade (People’s Parade) in festival costumes on Mar. 6.

In accordance to its goals and as a way of giving back, the organization will hold an outreach program at Tahanang Walang Hagdan on Mar. 7.

As the organization goes beyond 25 years, the UP Deutscher Verein will continue to strengthen the ties between Germany and the Philippines through active promotion of German language and culture.
