Container Van Dorm Offers Bed With Wi-Fi For P57 A Night

Talk about affordable housing!

As cities expand into further urbanization and more workers are looking for jobs in the metro, housing prices become steeper, and condominiums only get higher by the day. Yet for some, these aren’t viable living options.

So for those who are tight on a budget, what are their choices where they can have access to efficient space, ample facilities and affordable rates?

The answer? Container van dormitories!

Citihub refurbished and redesigned shipping containers into affordable housing accommodations, ideal for tired commuters living in dense areas of the metro who can get stuck in traffic and need low-cost places to stay in that are nearby their work places.

The Citihub dormitories first opened its doors in 2011 along JP Rizal Street in Mandaluyong, and will soon rise in Sta. Ana, Makati, Sta. Mesa, Manila, Davao City and Bataan.

The container van structure along JP Rizal has about 264 beds, with each container van holding a maximum of 22 beds. For less than P2,000 a month, one can avail a room with Wi-Fi and air-conditioning, aside from cheaper room options.

Many of the shipping container dorms’ tenants are call center agents, architects, and minimum-wage earners.

Talk about low-cost and efficient!

Thoughts on this? Should we have more of these?
