Promotions for the South Korean animated film, “Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs” rolled out during the Cannes Film Festival, and the reception has been lukewarm, to say the least.
The dismal reaction in no small part comes from the message of the campaign, which suggests body shaming, according to netizens. The Cannes billboard shows Snow White, voiced by Chloe Grace Moretz, with the caption: What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?
Model Tess Holliday was the first to point out the problematic ad, which others replied that they noticed the same thing:
How did this get approved by an entire marketing team? Why is it okay to tell young kids being fat = ugly?

Chloe then responded on Twitter, saying that none of the promotional materials were approved by her or her team, and that she was just as appalled and angry as everyone else was.
I have now fully reviewed the mkting for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn’t approved by me or my team

Chloe also assured fans that she’s brought the matter to the producers. The 20-year-old actress, however, encouraged fans to watch the film in its entirety, insisting that the movie had an empowering story for young girls everywhere.
The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me.
I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control https://t.co/HZP2ydPCAX
