Celine Dion Cancels Asia Tour, Puts Show Business Career On Hold Indefinitely

Celine Dion’s upcoming tour of Asia, including her much anticipated concert in Manila, has been cancelled as the artist is putting her career on hold “indefinitely” for health and family reasons.

In a statement on her website and Facebook page, the 46-year-old said she was cancelling all performances to focus on her health, her husband’s health and their children: “I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children.

Dion’s greatest concern is her husband, 72-year-old René Angélil, who had a cancerous tumor removed at the end of last year, while the Canadian superstar herself is also fighting an undisclosed illness. It has caused “inflammation in her throat muscles”, according to an earlier press release, and prevented her from performing any of her Las Vegas concerts since the 29th of July: “It’s been a very difficult and stressful time for the couple as they deal with … fighting (René’s) disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule, and raise their three young children,” her spokesperson wrote. Dion said she wanted to apologize “for inconveniencing” her fans, thanking them for their “love and support”.

The career hiatus also brings a temporary end to Dion’s residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where she has been performing on and off since 2003. Her current show, which debuted in 2011, was due to run until 2019.
