Cebu Reports First Case of COVID-19

Cebu reports its first case of COVID-19 in the province. The Department of Health tags him as PH188 or patient 188 and is currently admitted at the Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue.

The patient is a 65-year-old Filipino man who didn’t have any travel history abroad. However, he has traveled to different cities in Metro Manila and in Mindanao. It is also reported that the patient is recovering and is about to be discharged.

According to the Mandaue City LGU, the city currently has 37 patients under investigation and 64 persons under monitoring.

As of writing, the Philippines currently has 202 confirmed cases in the country. This case in Cebu is the 4th reported case of the virus outside Luzon.

Cebu also announced that they will be closing off their borders for a month last Monday, prior to this development. Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia also called an emergency meeting after the report of Cebu’s first COVID-19 case.
