As the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus continues, government officials are stepping up. Aside from the daily efforts they provide in ensuring safety in the community, many officials have already pledged their salaries for the month in the bid to contain the virus.
President Rodrigo Duterte has already pledged his one-month salary for COVID-19 fight.
Lawmakers in the House of Representatives also donated their entire May salary.
Even local officials like those in the City of Manila, headed by Mayor Isko Moreno, will donate their one-month salary to the Philippine General Hospital.
Another mayor is stepping up in the COVID-19 fight. Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua from Noveleta, Cavite announced that he will be donating his salary for the rest of 2020 to aid his constituents.
He announced this in a video posted on his official Facebook page.
He opened his message by thanking volunteers.
“Gusto ko pong pasalamatan ang lahat ating mga volunteers,” the mayor said. “Pinaghirapan po nila ito para mabigyan po natin ang more than 15,000 families dito po sa bayan ng Noveleta.”
“Kaya naisip ko po na ico-call ko po ang ginawa nila Mayor Isko Moreno na winaive ang kanilang sweldong isang buwan. Ganoon din po ang ating pangulo, si Presidente Rodrigo Duterte, nag-donate po ng isang buwang sweldo,” he explained.
“Pero ako po, sa palagay ko po para mabigyan ang lahat ng bahay sa buong Noveleta, hindi po kasya ang isang buwan. Ang sweldo ko po hanggang Disyembre ay ido-donate ko para punan po ‘yung mga bigas, de lata, pagkain, para lahat po ng 15,000 families dito sa bayan ng Noveleta ay mabigyan po natin,” he said as he pledges his salary for the year.
