NTUCHAINANESECHICKENRICE35

When In Manila, my first encounter with Hainanese Chicken rice was when I was a small girl. Once, at a mall we used to frequent, my dad sat me down at the Food Court and told me we were to have a very, very good meal. The order came and I was disappointed. It was chicken so pale, it looked like it hadn’t been cooked. I cringed at the thought of putting it in [...]

If you are on a tight budget When in Manila, it is a BIG challenge to find a healthy, gourmet-tasting food.. because cheap is almost always equal to fried and fatty.  That is why I was overly eager to try this new place along E.Rodriguez, called O’pollo.           O’pollo is an Australian food concept with a tinge of Portuguese influence that offers healthy grilled zesty chicken in buns, in wraps or [...]

When in Manila, specifically at New Port, Pasay City, try dropping by Resorts World Manila to eat. Passion Restaurant can be found here at the second floor of the casino area. This is a fine dining restaurant that serves Chinese food. I went there with my family and a couple of their friends for lunch and since I love Chinese food, I definitely brought my appetite.         Those big sliding doors [...]

Cafe 1771 9

When in Manila and panicking as to where to bring your date for dinner (or even for lunch or brunch!), I suggest that you head on over to Cafe 1771 in El Pueblo, Pasig City for a truly enjoyable dining experience with good food and a comfortable setting.       Upon entering Cafe 1771, I was immediately drawn to the incredibly cute color scheme. In fact, for a good five minutes or so that’s all [...]

When In Manila and wanting to watch a good classic rock act, have a go at one of Manila’s rock legends: Razorback   Formed in 1990, They are considered to be a pillar or Pinoy rock, and they continue the legacy till today.   So, you can just imagine my joy when I found out they were playing at San Mig Pub, Alabang Town Center. kaya-toast

When In Manila, we constantly look for new places to eat. Yakun Kaya Toast was once only reachable when in Singapore, but now, we can enjoy its delicious coconut jam even when in Manila.          I typically order half of Set Meal 1 – which includes a slice of kaya toast with butter, 1 soft-boiled egg, and a cup of hot tea (P115).         The kaya [...]

Relax. You cannot just buy this over the counter right? So, what is that one thing you can alternatively grab to relax When In Manila? Chocolate! If you belong to the legion of chocoholics, that’s a no brainer question. Chocolate does not just tingle ones tongue; it’s a fusion of many compounds that affect the brain, improve the heart rate and is always reliable for that caffeine fix (if you are avoiding coffee, that is). strawberry-flavored-taho.jpg

When in Manila, there’ll always be that one Pinoy snack you’d always remember growing up in the Philippines. To many, one of them would have to be taho. Taho is a sweet snack made of soft/silken tofu, arnibal (caramelized brown sugar and vanilla syrup), and sago (tapioca balls). The Malaysians and Indonesians have a similar version of this and it’s called tahu.

Singapore-Chicken-Rice-When-In-Manila-Singapore-Food

For Asian travelers, When in Manila, it may be difficult to find the taste that brings you closer to home.  Well, as they say, do not judge a book by its cover;  so maybe you also cannot judge a city by the visible, well-lit, frequently seen establishments.  Sometimes, the authentic ones are situated in quite secluded corners.    That’s what I realized when I discovered Singapore Chicken Rice at the corner of Shopwise Arcade along [...]

Gardenia-Manufacturing-Plant-Philippines-1.jpg

When In Manila, if you died and went to bread heaven this is how it would look like :         In this rice-eating country, bread takes on a backseat in our diet. And when Filipinos eat bread, the common notion is that it usually is made from the hands (& sweat?) from your local bakery.   On the otherhand, the recent years have shown a general uptrend in the consumption of [...]
