Carlos Yulo Concludes SEA Games Run With 7 Medals

19-year-old gymnast Carlos Yulo has claimed 7 medals in his Southeast Asian Games debut. He concluded his SEA Games 2019 run with an impressive 2 gold medals and 5 silver medals.

(Philippines Makes A Strong Start At SEA Games 2019 With 42 Medals)

Yulo began the games by claiming 2 gold medals right off the bat. The first was for the individual artistic gymnastics all-around event where he registered a total score of 84.900. Here he edged out Vietnam’s Dinh Phuong Thanh and Le Thanh Tung who scored 82.360 and 81.700 respectively.

His second gold was given for the floor exercise event where he finished with a score of 14.700.  Thailand’s Surintornta Tikumporn came next with a 13.833 while Malaysia’s Mat Asri Zul Bahrin followed with a 13.767.

On the second day of the gymnastic events, Yulo claimed 2 silver medals for both the still rings and pommel horse events. Yulo placed behind Malaysia’s Fu Jie Tan in the men’s artistic gymnastics pommel horse event. He scored a 13.233 to Fu Jie Tan’s 13.967.

For the men’s artistic gymnastics still rings Yulo’s 13.733 was not enough to overpower the defending title-holder Vietnamese Nam Dang. Nam Dang achieved a mark of 13.867.

The third and last day of the gymnastic events saw Yulo garner 3 more silver medals. He finished at the men’s vault event with a 14.700 mark. Indonesia’s Agus Prayoko took home the gold medal with a mark of 14.734.

Yulo then completed the parallel bars with a score of 14.600, behind defending champion Dinh Phuong Thanh who scored a 14.800. He scored a 13.667 at the horizontal bar for the silver while Dinh won another gold with a score of 13.767.

It may not have been the gold medal sweep that Yulo hoped for but it was still a spectacular showing at his very first SEA Games. He has made the Philippines immensely proud!
