Can Floyd Mayweather actually afford an NBA team?

Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he is interested in buying an NBA franchise.

He posted a photo on Instagram after his meeting with Magic Johnson, currently the Lakers president of basketball operations, saying: “It’s about time for me to buy an NBA team.”

Mayweather has earned a lot of money because of the success he’s had in the boxing ring. According to Forbes, his net worth was around $340 million as of December 2016. That’s a lot of money. But probably not enough to buy an NBA team.

Based on Forbes’ reports, about 20 NBA owners are billionaires.

To put it in perspective, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has a net worth of around $3.9 billion while Clippers owner Steve Balmer has a net worth of around $30 billion.

Though he may not be able to buy an NBA team on his own, he could become part of a larger group who could invest in a franchise.

If he does become an NBA owner, which team do you think it would be?
