Cafe UK: Have a Cuppa in the New Student-Friendly Coffee Shop Around UST

 

When in Manila, coffee shops are hardly ever without students hunched over mountains of books, highlighted notes, and other such study materials nowadays. Come crunch time and finals, students tend to flock over to their nearest coffee shop to study and cram in a relaxing atmosphere while fueling themselves with caffeine to stay awake.

Well, the students of the University of Santo Tomas have now found their newest USTambayan for burning the midnight oil and chilling the day away: Cafe UK, now brewing in Manila, and the first branch in the country of a franchise that originated in Europe.

 

Afternoon Tea or Evening Espresso at the Cafe UK Coffee Shop

 

Cafe UK uses a vacuum coffee maker in their coffee shop, which brews and produces coffee through two chambers with vapor pressure and vacuum. Vacuumed coffee makes for a cup with fuller flavor and smoother texture.

With a serving of Cafe UK‘s vacuumed coffee, you won’t just taste the coffee, but you will actually experience it – the aroma, the flavor, the caffeine buzz. Definitely recommended if you’re thinking of pulling an all-nighter. One tall cup only costs Php105.

Cafe UK’s Caramel Macchiato is one of their bestsellers with the right amount of caramel sweetness. While we were chilling at Cafe UK with a cup of caramel macchiato, it eventually became cold after a while but it still didn’t lose its full flavor.

Here’s one for the frappuccino aficionados out there: Cafe UK’s Strawberry and Cream frappe, which is steadily becoming a favorite. I’m not much of a frappe-drinker myself, but I liked how this one tasted.

Ahhh, the cheesecake. One too many diets have been ruined because of this creamy, delectable dessert. But when dining at this coffee shop, forget the weighing scale and carpe diem with their strawberry cheesecake which fills your mouth with cream cheese goodness.

If you’re not much of a sweet tooth, Cafe UK also offers healthier selections, such as their Paninis (Php 140), which are served with wheat bread and Lays potato chips. Cafe UK is also quite famous for their Salads (Php 140): Cafe UK Signature Salad and Cafe UK Healthy Salad.

You can’t go wrong with these student-friendly priced food items made from the freshest grade A ingredients.

 

Enhancing the Cafe Studying Experience

Cafe UK decorated their coffee shop with murals that remind us of our favorite British personalities. Celebrities and other well-known individuals from London town also adorn the walls.

The murals and paintings were painted by art students. Another impressive fact is that the architectural design of the cafe was done by architecture students.

The laid back ambiance of Cafe UK is perfect for those who either just want to relax and chill out, or students who want to study (or cram!) in peace. Knowing full well how youngsters are perpetually dependent on the internet for information and entertainment, Cafe UK is also wired with 10 MBPS internet. To ensure that the bandwidth wouldn’t be too traffic jammed, each floor has its own router.

Another amazing Cafe UK feature are the iPad units embedded into some of the tables. I don’t think any other cafe is this generous when it comes to heightening everyone’s coffee shop experience.

Here’s one for art and architecture students who need to accomplish plates: drafting tables! Each table also comes with a nifty holder for drinks and bags. Use of the tables is absolutely free, but of course, be mindful of the time to give other students a turn.

The chairs and tables were all done by the partners and owners of Cafe UK. These sofas are comfortable enough for those who just want to kick up their shoes after a long day of classes and lectures. It can get quite chilly at Cafe UK, though, so make sure to bring a jacket if you’re planning on staying for a long while.

When in Manila, student or not, keep calm and get your caffeine fix at Cafe UK.
