The UP Psychology Society, with the goal of spreading awareness of psychology and mental health, will be organizing Bukod-Tangi: Ang Kakaibahan ay Hindi Kakulangan – a two-day event that centers its efforts on children with special needs and their families. Our aim through this event is to raise awareness about their conditions and needs and to address and mitigate the stigma towards them.
On the 5th of May, we would like to invite you guys to come and join us in the first-day event, entitled Pagmulat, which will be held at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Palma Hall Rm. 207 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This event will introduce the conditions of children with special needs and how they may be dealt with and mitigate the current stigma towards them.
There will be an hour-long film screening of “Yakap,” from The Center for Possibilities Foundation, Inc., that hopefully would inspire you guys to embrace children with special needs. After this, a sensitivity training will follow to be facilitated by trained personnel from the said organization. The speakers for this event will be Ms. Dolores F. Cheng and Ms. Cynthia T. Gonzales, the Founder and Vice President, respectively, of The Center for Possibilities Foundation, Inc.and Mr. Kevin Avelino, a Teacher’s Aide from the New Horizon Special Learning Center.
With this event, we hope that you will be able to deepen your knowledge and understanding of these various conditions affecting children. We wish that we will be able to instill a passion for you to continue supporting these individuals.
For those coming, there will be free coffee to be given out. Also, certificates may be given upon request.
