Big Hero 6: Stories of Modern Day Heroes

Big Hero 6: Stories of Modern Day Heroes

I’ve been seeing the commercials of Big Hero 6 for quite a while now and my little brother has been bugging me to watch it. Good thing I got an invite from Columbia Pictures for the advanced screening, and since then, I have already seen the movie 3 times.

If you are a techie and a fan of superheroes, this is the perfect movie for you.

Taking it from the title of the movie itself, Big Hero 6 is about superheroes – literally and figuratively.

The Characters are pretty impressive. Each has their own personality, which makes them unique in the story.

The story revolves around Hiro and his family. Hiro is a kid-genius who loves botfights (robot fights) and fights with a robot that he personally designed, while Tadashi goes to the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, which Hiro calls a “Nerd School”. Hiro and his brother Tadashi lost their parents when they were young and have lived with their aunt since then.

After getting caught in a botfight, Tadashi brings Hiro to the “Nerd School” in order to convince his brother to clean up his act and put his genius to good use. There, he meets Tadashi’s invention, Baymax.

Baymax and Hiro

Baymax is designed like a big fluffy marshmallow. He is meant to have a huggable design. After Tadashi convinces Hiro to join the “Nerd School”, the villains come in, giving heart-breaking twists to the story.

Baymax was originally designed to be a Healthcare Companion or a nurse, but some circumstances pushed him to redesign himself and take revenge on people who do him wrong.

Hiro is joined by Tadashi’s friends in his adventures. These are his friends from Nerd School who pitched in their own genius ideas to make Hiro’s inventions better.

Big Hero 6 is really a story of heroes – and not just Baymax. Cass, Hiro’s aunt, is also a hero for taking Tadashi and Hiro in. Tadashi is also a hero for trying to save his professor and for keeping Hiro’s future in mind.

Big Hero 6 is definitely a movie that you can watch with your kids and the whole family. It is a story of family, love, unity, courage and most of all hope.
