He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008 and has since supported Alzheimer’s Research until his demise.

Last July, he cancelled his scheduled appearance at the International Discworld Convention and was quoted saying: “..the Embuggerance is finally catching up with me, along with other age-related ailments.”

Known for his colourful and imaginative prose made unique by his quick wit, Pratchett is arguably one of the best authors of our time. He has published over 70 books in his lifetime and has won numerous awards. In 2009, he was knighted for his contribution to literature. His best sellers include Snuff, Going Postal, and Night Watch, just to name a very few.

The last Pratchett book I read was Good Omens, a beautiful collaboration with Gaiman. That book was exactly as I expected it to be– infused with the former’s unique wit and the latter’s magical imagery. It was a beautiful read.

It is a shame that Pratchett will cease to create great works like this but also thankful for the blessing that he has created so much in his lifetime, and we can continue to share and consume them.

Rest in peace, Sir Terry Pratchett. You will be missed.
