Benildeans On What They Would Tell Their Frosh Self

Photo essay by Sabrina Llantino

Do you remember your first year of college? Surely, there are some things you would tell yourself if you could go back in time just like most of us. Recalling their first year college experience, we have asked students from De Lasalle-College of Saint Benilde to share with us what they would tell themselves if they could go back to their frosh years.

Here’s what they said:

Enjoy every moment and give your best in everything you do. Always make sure to know your options before choosing. Have a planner. It really helps you organize your schedule.

I only have 5 things to say to my Frosh self:
1:  Join orgs in school because it will make new friends.
2: Don’t just eat in caf! Discover restaurants and canteen around Taft.
3: Make friends with everyone! (Para di ka huling pipiliin sa groupings)
4: Don’t limit yourself. Discover new things! ????
5: Wag kang torpe.

If I could go back to my frosh years, I would probably tell myself to be myself. Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. Fitting in won’t matter ’cause everyone has their own uniqueness. If you made a mistake it’s okay and if you’re tired just take a break. Chill lang.

Don’t be discouraged from pursuing your passion. Your works may not be as great compared to some right now but with lots of practice and believing in yourself (very cliche but it’s true), you’ll be an expert at your chosen field soon.

A friend of ours used to say: “Let your feeling of inadequacy motivate you. Strive to never feel it again.”

I would encourage myself to create more art that I relate to and try my best to develop my own style. Now, I’m in my sophomore year, it’s so difficult to find time for my own passion because of my heavy work load. Also, I’d have to convince myself to be more social in habit and start working towards productivity that would benefit me in the long run.

That during my first year of college. I shouldn’t use the word yolo and that I shouldn’t be a happy go lucky person during my first year.

Go out and just discover more about what life may lead me to. It still all goes down to regrets ‘cause I didn’t get to let myself go away from my usual comfort zone.

I think to always make sure to do your best in everything you do and stay true to yourself.
