The procedure is called Intralesional Steroid Injection.
According to Dr. Angela, the aim of this procedure is to improve the patient’s quality of life by improving its appearance or reducing symptoms such as itch or pain. She also told us about the advantages of this procedure over the oral steroid and topical treatments. She explained that the medicine is only injected in the affected areas.
Is it painful?
As explained by Dr. Angela, it depends on the pain threshold of the patient. She explained that Intralesional Steroid Injection procedure requires extensive physical assessment before the procedure. You must inform your doctor whether you have chronic diseases such Diabetes, Hypertension, and alike. In addition, the procedure requires local anesthesia when injecting the steroid. Minor procedures like this can be done in the clinic.
What are the side effects of the procedure?
Surprisingly, no side effects like gaining weight or puffiness, unlike oral steroids. The only side effect Mike felt was the tolerable pain after the local anesthesia was gone, and the skin bringing back its natural form.
