Aquamundo opened its first shop in 2002 and is the brainchild of Ralph Espino, an avid scuba diver and instructor, and daughter Adie Espino. After running successful scuba retail shop and travel tour agency “Dive Buddies”, Ralph and Adie decided to start their own brand. This proved to be successful: Aquamundo now has two branches in Makati, one in Cebu and the brand’s products can be found in all Islands & More stores, a sister store of Island Souvenirs as well as internationally in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Upon opening, Aquamundo sold basic gear: scuba masks, fins, snorkels, wetsuits and scuba hardware (regulators, BCDs, etc.). Eventually the company expanded their product lines to technical diving equipment and swimwear (competition, training and lifestyle swimsuits), training fins, caps and goggles. A surfline offering surfboards and –gear was added as well. The International School Manila’s swim team is among the brand’s customers – Aquamundo creates and customizes their swimsuits and can do so for other interested parties as well. The brand’s plan for 2014: open a lifestyle branch in one of the Metro’s malls.

What does Aquamundo mean, you may wonder? Since owner Adie is half Spanish and partly grew up in Madrid, she used this as an inspiration to name the brand Aquamundo which is Spanish for water world.
