On September 21, protests left and right was held in lieu of the 45th anniversary of Martial Law. President Rodrigo Duterte signedProclamation 316, declaring September 21 as a National Day of Protest. Though it was not declared as a holiday, classes were suspended in both government offices and public schools.
Even online, the healthy exercise of democracy was seen.
Going viral recently on social media is this photo album of people dressed as superheroes who are calling for others to stand up for human rights. The album was shared on A Hero’s Call Facebook Page.
The album has a caption:
The Darkest Night has come. Villains have risen to the highest positions in the land. Children are dying on our streets. Murderers and plunderers are being set free without so much as a slap on the wrist. And the value of our human rights has been diminished to the point where the institutions that protect them are deemed expendable. But we can still bring about the Brightest Day. In times of great darkness, heroes arise to shine their light on the shadows that surround us. And they need our help. We invite everyone who still believes in justice to suit up, raise their wands, ignite their lightsabers, and join the fight. SHIELD or Hydra, Stark or Lannister, DA or Death Eater, Jedi or Sith – it doesn’t matter who you are.
