When In Manila, who would’ve known that just sharing your fun adventures would eventually lead you to positively influence a culture?!
It is with great pleasure that I announce the WhenInManila.com team was honored with an Annies Award! Our community is recognized as a group who has made significant positive contributions to our culture and society. We were awarded alongside other celebrities, influencers and inspiring people such as Lovi Poe, Tim Yap, Elmo Magalona, Hindy Tantoco and more, each receiving the Annies because of positive contributions to society and culture.
Named after Mrs. Annie Guerrero, the first Filipina to be awarded as a Certified Culinary Professional by the IACP. Chairman of the Cravings Group and Founder of SINAG and Culinary Education Foundation, dedicated to sustainable, eco-living and provide culinary education to deserving individuals for a better life, The Annies aims to honor and celebrate the new breed of talented Filipinos whose contribution to society touches lives in the field of arts, entertainment, environment, food, creativity, innovation.
The Annies was the highlight of the Eat&Drink MNL festival. The festival celebrates Filipino cuisine, showcasing local culinary creations with different inspirations, preps and twists, while paired with wine, beer and fresh juices. The event was hosted by Carlos Celdran.
WhenInManila.com was selected as a recipient of an Annie.
According to them: “Our governing body believes that you exhibit the characteristics of the new Filipino; practices a new way of thinking and you have influenced and inspired others. We would be honored if you will accept this award and grace us with you attendance.”
I, Vince Golangco, was more than proud to be there to accept the award on behalf of our 100+ writers who contribute stories, ideals, thoughts, images, videos and more to our online magazine showcasing Manila, the Philippines and the world.
Here’s a rundown of the recipients of this year’s Annies Award.
Vince Golangco: Radio DJ and WhenInManila.com founder
His adventures throughout Manila can be seen in his famous blog site When in Manila. Vince Golangco is the creative director and Editor-in-chief of the said blog. He is also a DJ for Mellow 94.7 and the host of TV show “Tek Tok TV” on Global News Network. When in Manila has over 250,000 hits per month, over 78,000 Facebook fans and over 100,000 followers on twitter. It was also awarded as the number one Emerging Influential Blog for 2010 and named as The Rotary Club’s 10 Tourism Awardees for 2012. Furthermore, Unilever Sooo Pinoy Organization also named WhenInManila.com the “Ultimate Food Blogger”. Vince Golangco portrayed Manila and her events in a new, fun and more positive light through the new emerging media of the internet.
Lovi Poe: Embodies the new Filipina
A Filipina beauty—Lovi Poe embodies a timeless morena exquisiteness that Filipinas are known for. Like her father, Fernando Poe Jr, Lovi posses an amazing talent in acting. She has won best actress awards in Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for Mayohan, FAMAS for Sagrada Familia, Golden Screen Award and Star Awards for TV.
Tim Yap: Eventologist, Publicist, Promoter
An all around man who knows how to bring in the fun, Tim Yap is a successful eventologist, publicist and promoter. Tim hosted a number of programs such as Tweetbiz Insider, Living it Up and Party Pilipinas. Tim Yap also owns bars with his business partners such as Encore and Republiq with a vision of putting the Philippines on the map as one of worlds’ party hotspots.
Elmo Magalona: Music / Spirit of Francis M.
Singer-actor Elmo Magalona, the son of Master Rapper Francis Magalona is one of the most promising young musicians in the industry. Like his father, he continues to inspire the Filipino community through musical activism. Elmo Magalona is the face of a new generation of inspiring rappers. Jason Magbanua: Videographer
Jason Magbanua is world class wedding videographer, known for his unique style of capturing the special day in motion picture. He is known for his famous Same-Day Edit Works, winning prestigious awards such as five 2007 Creative Excellence Award from the Wedding and Event Videographers Association International and eight Artistic Awards from the 4ever Group.
Metrophoto: Oly Ruiz: Photographer
With his scene-stealing and stylish prenuptial and wedding photos, Oly Ruiz has captured the attention of the brides-to-be. His vision and creativity created Metrophoto. Metrophoto is a pool of talented wedding photographers known for their contemporary style of capturing every special moment. Their artistic style of preserving memories on photos has caught the eyes of many around the world.
Hindy Tantoco: Designer and Eco Warrior
A well known fashion designer for Rustan’s, Hindy Tantoco is one of the treasured fashion diva in the industry. She also contributed her talent in the line of Belle Mama, U Swim, Rustanette, Rustan’s Jr., Kiddos, Baby Club and her main line, Culte Femme. Hindy Tantoco is not only dedicated to fashion but to environment as well. She owns the organic/biodynamic farm called Holy Carabao that supplies the vegetables her family needs. Holy Carabao also delivers their products to Rustan Supermarket Makati, San Antonio, Forbes and Rockewell.
Pinoy Brand: Team Manila founders
From their catchy slogans to their artistic graphic shirts, Team Manila has introduced a new perspective of Manila to the world. Drawing their inspiration from the urban lifestyle of the colorful streets of Manila, they capture this image on their shirts. Founders Jowee Alviar and Mon Punzalan has now five stores and over 40 resellers not just in Philippines but also in USA, Canada, France, Dubai and Singapore.
