Amp Up Your School Pride with The Mighty Collective

It all started with basketball.

Aside from the crazy routines of college ranging from terror profs, exams, orgs and social life, there is only one other thing that makes these crazy teenagers go berserk: BASKETBALL. From the players to the game, everyone loves this fast-paced sport. And it is for the love of the game and university that Jay Daligdig and Marian Doplon champion The Mighty Collective.

Wear your heart on your sleeve and your pride on your chest. One of the most well-known and most utilized ways to show your school pride is by wearing shirts that scream school spirit. During games, you can easily distinguish among the sea of students, supporters and fans which university they bat for by the colors they wear.

The Mighty Collective, a humble shirt business managed by the two University of Santo Tomas alumni, kicks your Tiger pride up a notch by their funky-fied and proud tees. I sat down with them to talk about what makes The Mighty Collective “mightier than yours”.

The designer and his muse.

Jay Daligdig, a Hotel and Restaurant Management student from the University of Santo Tomas, has been creating designs and typographies for shirts and posters ever since last year. With his knack for bold details, statement prints and eye-popping colors, he had some Thomasians all a-buzz with curiosity. And because of his growing stream of supporters and loyal customers, he has caught the attention of the Thomasian community. He has even recruited some of the growling Tigers to model for his creations: Jeric Fortuna, Jeric Teng, Aljon Mariano, Kim Lo, Karim Abdul, Clark Bautista and Kevin Ferrer.

True to the statement tee he was wearing, “Mightier than yours”, Jay wanted to create something that was above par from other universi-tees, something truly mightier than thou. Straying from UST’s staple designs such as 1611-2011, tigers, etc, he says that although these are really what makes UST known, he was up to the challenge of designing shirts fueled by his originality, creativity and his school pride.

Helping manage the business is Jay’s girlfriend and blockmate, Marian Doplon. She says Jay handles the creative and design aspect of their business while she handles the orders and normally gives ideas for bold statements and wordings.
