Amazing 17x17x17 Rubik’s Cube Takes 7.5 Hours to Get Solved

“Twisty puzzle” enthusiast Kenneth Brandon or RedKB posted a video on YouTube on how he solved a 17x17x17 Rubik’s cube.

The video is over 7 hours long, nearly 8 hours. RedKB said, “I solved the entire thing! It only took 7.5 hours to solve! lol :)”

This may seem a lot of time spent on solving a Rubik’s cube, but with this size, it appears to be quite reasonable.

If you have about 8 hours to spare, watch the full video how he solved the ginormous Rubik’s cube below. In the video he posted on YouTube, he mentioned the parts you can jump into to see various major solutions. RedKB said, “Obviously, don’t watch the whole thing.”

The 17x17x17 Rubik’s cube was custom-made by Dutch puzzle designer Oskar van Deventer. It has a total of 6.69*10^1054 different ways to scramble the said cube. According to The Verge, there is no official record for solving one as far as they know.

According to RedKB, the best way to solve it is using “reduction method”, which begins by solving the center first before solving the edges. The Verge quotes RedKB, “The way you solve a 17 by 17 is just like you would a seven by seven, or a five by five. If you can solve one of those then the 17 by 17 isn’t that hard, but it is very, very tedious.”

Do you think you can solve it faster or you can solve it at all?
