Ajisen Sto. Domingo Quezon City Branch

When in Manila, be it in the Greenhills area, Malate area, and now even in the heart of Quezon City, there’s an Ajisen near you! When my friend, JoTan, got excited that there’s a new branch of Ajisen in our neighborhood, I told myself I definitely have to try this ramen place. JoTan is a foodie, and when she gets excited about a new resto, it’s got to be worth checking out. And so we did!

Shitake Ebi (Stuffed Japanese Mushroom – Php 198)

Ebi Wrap (Php 158)

I was amazed right from the starters. Shiitake ebi, stuffed mushroom has a melt in your mouth feeling… the crispiness of the coating complements the mushiness of the mushroom; Ebi Wrap, a meal in itself shrimp roll with minced meat wrapped in lettuce. Then we had three kinds of sushi rolls: Crazy Roll which has ebi tempura, crabstick, cucumber, egg, salmon skin roll topped with crabstick; Jurassic, it’s like a Crazy Roll hyped up by chunks of eel on top; Dragon Roll, the classier twin of our usual California maki because it didn’s stop at just kani, mango, and cucumber. Ajisen’s Dragon Roll even has ebi tempura (which all Manilans fall in line for at Japanese buffets). Just so you know, these rolls are huge!!! I have no idea how you can fit a whole piece in my mouth.

Those were just the starters. Now for the ramen selection. Ajisen’s soup base is directly imported from the mother company in Japan. They use Ajisen oil which is a special flavoring oil that enhanced the taste of the unique Kyushu style white pork broth; Ajisen powder, concoction of a thousand kinds of Japanese herbs; Okinawa salt, nutritious natural sea salt; and, 100% whole wheat ramen noodles that doesn’t absorb all the broth from the soup bowl (I love it!)

Kakuni (Php 275)

We went for the Ajisen ramen specialties like Chashu, Kakuni and Spicy Ajisen. I love the extra pork bbq in the Chashu because we didn’t have to fight for how many pieces of pork each one gets, all four of us were able to taste the Chashu experience. Then we tried the Kakuni which has stewed pork, bean sprout and leeks; the pork was so tender and flavorful.

Spicy Ajisen Ramen (Php 255)

My favorite is the Spicy Ajisen which has SPICY pork bbq, leeks, boiled egg, cabbage and fungus. I love this because they serve the ramen and the spice separately and i can control the level of spiciness that im comfortable with.

OMG! Looking at this spicy Ajisen ramen picture makes me want to go back to Ajisen right now.

By the way, please don’t feel bad when they charge you an additional fee for extra broth because you must understand that every ingredient is imported from Japan and each dish is made to measure up to the last drop. Of course, shipping and handling isn’t cheap 🙂 But to maintain the highest quality possible, Ajisen strives to strictly follow the original measurements and not do shortcuts.

Hiyashi Ramen (Php 255)
refreshing cold noodles

The last i tried was Hiyashi ramen, cold noodles with tomato, ham, egg, cucumber, crabsticks and a dollop of wasabi. I was skeptical about this dish because i never tasted cold noodles and the combination of ingredients didn’t “sound” appetizing to me. Guess what, the Hiyashi ramen was so good, i went back to Ajisen a week after having my first taste of it.

Beef Teppanyaki (Imported from Japan – Php 325)

The Beef Steak Teppanyaki is a must try in Ajisen; the beef is imported from Japan and you can choose how you want the steak done.

Torikatsu Karee Rice (Php 245)

If you’re craving for Japanese curry, I recommend the Torikatsu karee rice, served with chunks of breaded chicken cutlets in rich Japanese curry sauce.

Sio Saba (Php 155)

We appreciate that Ajisen is not just a ramen place but they also serve awesome Japanese food. This juicy salted mackerel was perfect with all our ramen noodles as the light pork broth balances out the very flavorful fish, which is great with rice as well.

Ajisen now has over 800 stores worldwide. When In Manila, visit one of Ajisen’s branches in the Philippines and taste the original white broth ramen with an extensive array of garnishing.
