Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment 11:30AM of February 2 (12:30AM – February 3, Philippine Standard Time).

According to the New York Times, Hoffman was found lying dead inside his bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm, near him is an envelope containing what is believed to be heroin. Law officials are still investigating the cause of death, but media outfits has speculated to drug overdose.
The 46-year-old actor has publicly admitted in 2006 that he nearly succumbed to drug abuse graduating from NYU’s drama school, and got sober in rehab. Just last year, he checked himself again in a rehab facility after relapsing in 2012. Rumors says that he reverted back to using prescription drugs a few weeks before his sudden death.
Hoffman has done more than 60 films in his stint as an actor which includes Boogie Nights, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Almost Famous, Happiness, Cold Mountain, among others. He won the Oscar’s Best Actor in his performance as Truman Capote in the 2005 biographical film Capote, and has also been nominated three times for the Best Supporting Actor category at the same award giving body. He has done acting and directorial stint in theater, which garnered him three nominations at the Tony Awards.
He recently appeared in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Plutarch Heavensbee, and was already filming the second part of the movie adaptation’s finale – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
Hoffman was born in 1967 at Fairport, New York. He started his acting career as a defendant for “The Violence of Summer” episode of Law & Order in 1991. The next year he appeared in four feature film, including Scent of a Woman. He had a longstanding relationship with costume-designer Mimi O’Donell, they have a daughter and two sons.
