If you’re part of the 99% of people who are obsessed with Korean barbeque, then you’re most likely familiar with the entirety of this article -and if you’re part of the 1% who aren’t hopping on the bandwagon (for some reason, I have no idea why), you’re in the right place!

The perfect place to start your wonderful journey into the world of Korean barbeque is Gen Korean BBQ House, located at the end of the strip at SM By the Bay, Seaside Blvd, Mall of Asia Complex. The word ‘Gen’ literally means ‘beginning’ -which has to convince you right there that this will definitely set the bar high.

Here are the best meats you’ve got to try from Gen Korean BBQ House, which ranges from sweet to savory in different kinds of meat.

1. Samgyupsal

SAMGYUBSAL

Samgyupsal is the rite of passage when it comes to your first KBBQ meal. It’s a pork dish that is served in thick strips in the same fashion as galbi (a style of cut for grilled ribs) but there is no marinating involved. Usually cooked on a grill with kimchi, garlic and onions, Koreans usually eat samgyupsal with lettuce by wrapping the cooked samgyupsal on it with a dab of ssamjang (a spicy red sauce made of gochujang).

2. Gen Chadol

GEN CHADOL

Gen Chadol is Gen Korean BBQ House’s version of the (other) rite of passage. These are thinly sliced beef brisket that shrivel up as soon as they touch the heat of your warm grill. It is usually dipped in sesame oil mixed in with salt and pepper, creating a delicious savory taste. In Gen Korean BBQ House, they offer a special kind of salt -Green Tea Salt – with their sesame oil, providing a unique taste to the meat that compliments it well. This one also cooks very quickly, so make sure to not overcook it by leaving it on the grill for too long!

3. Gen Signature Pork Steak

GEN SIGNATURE PORK STEAK 1

This dish is as good as it sounds. It is marinated pork loin which you can grill and cut up on your own. Gen Korean BBQ House only gives off the best quality of meat, so it’s guaranteed that you won’t be able to mess the grilling part up, even as a beginner.

4. Gen Signature Sirloin Steak

GEN SIGNATURE PREMIUM STEAK

As if it couldn’t get any better, Gen Korean BBQ House actually offers Signature Sirloin Steak which earns its name from the way they cut it. Marinated in a sweet yet savory blend, this one is a must-try and an all-around favorite from the regulars.

5. Gen Beef Bulgogi

GEN BEEF BULGOGI

Gen’s Beef Bulgogi is made up of thin and marinated slices of sweet and savory beef, the perfect dish to cap off a perfect meal at Gen.

If you’re still unsure about when to stop grilling and which side dishes to choose from, don’t fret because their servers will gladly teach and help you along the way. My number one tip for these all-you-can-eat restaurants is to always bring friends. If you don’t know what you’re doing, chances are they either probably do or you’ll end up being clueless together (which is honestly a more fun time)! Oh, and bring an appetite -you’ll need it!
