8 Things Only Childhood Best Friends Would Understand

Pauleen Luna Pia Wurtzbach best friends

1. You can count on her to NEVER judge you for anything.

From the time you secretly peed your underwear in third grade to the first time you’ve ever gotten drunk in college, any concept of shame is gone with her. She will forever be the first person to know any stupid thing you’ve done, and will be your hero out of every sticky situation.

2. You had gone through everything together.

From childhood crushes to baby bras, up until having your first period and your first heartbreak. She was by your side through every milestone and moment during your growing up years, and will still be there even through adulthood.

3. She was always your ticket to a sleepover when you were younger.

Especially for those who grew up with overprotective parents, asking permission to sleep over at a classmate’s house was a joke and OUT of the question… except with your best friend! You secretly suspected sometimes that your parents trusted your best friend more than they trusted you.

4. She knows more about you than your family does.

All those years of hour-long phone calls, late-night texts and clingy moments all day long weren’t for nothing, after all. You were each other’s rant buddy for every single thing seemed to go awry and you only had each other to lean on. And because you’re best friends, you take each other’s secrets to the grave.

5. Though you share many similarities, you celebrate each other’s differences.

She loves K-Pop, while you’re more into indie music. She’s a Star Wars fan, while you love Ewan McGregor in something else that doesn’t involve lightsabers. Even if you don’t have the same tastes in everything, you respect each other enough to have your own thing. That also means taking one for the team and being the designated emergency concert buddy.

6. Going different paths does not mean growing apart.

A healthy friendship is being able to share so much yet finding your own individuality as well. Eventually you both go to different colleges, pursue other endeavors and encounter different people in your lives, and that’s not a bad thing! This also means having a wider circle, as your new friends became her friends, and her friends became yours.

7. You share the vaguest of inside jokes.

One look or a head nod and you immediately know what the other is saying. There are also tons of memories to look back on that it’s hard to loop in other people into the conversation. You know each other like the back of your hand, and you can even predict what they’re going to do next even better than themselves.

8. Rivalry is out of the picture.

People around you compared the both of you while growing up: who was the prettier one, who was smarter, who had a better personality, but they could not break your bond. Though you’ve had your fair share of arguments, it just didn’t work that way. You have always been each other’s fan in everything!
