8. A book
Solo travel means you won’t have anyone to talk to during downtime, such as lines, flights, and the commute. Sure, it’s easy to just browse social media but if you’re trying to limit your phone use (you should), reading a book is your best bet. Now’s the time to catch up on your reading list and if you don’t have one, you can always ask your friends for recommendations or you can pop in the airport’s bookstore. It’s best to come prepared so pack a first aid kit before you leave. Include some painkillers and medicine for usual ailments like stomachaches, allergies, motion sickness, and headaches. You never know what’s going to happen while you’re traveling and there won’t be anyone you can count on but yourself.

We’re sure you already have your itinerary ready but it’s a good idea to be a little extra and prepare a map. Take note of how to get to each destination, including train or bus routes. You won’t need a physical map since phones usually have their own version. If you don’t have an internet connection, Google Maps lets you download their maps so you can access it even if you’re offline.
