7 Fun Places You Need to Visit When in Bohol

Most of the time, when people hear about Bohol, the first things that automatically come into their minds are the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers. While there is nothing wrong with that – seeing as the Chocolate Hills are indeed beautiful and the tarsiers are indeed very fascinating creatures – you should know that there are a lot of other things that you can do in Bohol, as well.

I went to Bohol for the first time in my life this month, thanks to Air Asia Zest and Bohol Tourism, and I didn’t even realize we didn’t get to go to the Chocolate Hills until my mom asked about it when we got back. “Why didn’t you go to the Chocolate Hills?” she asked. “Coz there was so much more to see, mom,” I said. “There was just so much more to see.” And it’s true. Chocolate Hills aside, here are 7 fun places you definitely need to visit the next time you go to Bohol.

7. The Caves of Anda

A location of Jericho Rosales’ movie ‘Panday’, the caves of Anda are a fun place to go if you like trekking and want to add a bit of adventure to your next Bohol trip. The trek itself isn’t hard, but the caves that you will spot while there are incredibly interesting.

Not only will you feel a sort of tingly vibe from some of them; but you’ll also see a lot of interesting things, like skulls and bones from jars that were once used as coffins, red hematite markings on the walls and lots and lots of bats. Batman fans like me will have a happy meltdown!

That aside, the trip going to and from the caves is fun, as well. You’ll have the choice of riding a speedboat and simply enjoying the view or being a bit more adventurous by crossing unstable bridges and riding a rowboat that you can even row yourself.

You might want to skip this if you have a fear of bridges.

As you can see, we definitely had a lot of fun on that boat.

6. Bohol Bee Farm

Before I went to Bohol, I posted questions on social media asking where to go and what to see, and the Bee Farm was one location that people recommended on the Internet. Originally, I thought we’d go in there and see bees, but it turns out we went there to have an unforgettable dinner with a gorgeous view.

To say that the food at Bee Farm is all healthy would be an understatement. We got to try some of their dishes, including squash bread (best combined with pesto spread, which you can later buy at their store), organic red rice, grilled fish, organic garden salad and seafood lasagna.

They also have unique ice cream flavours that will make you raise your eyebrows with intrigue and want to try them all. I highly recommend the malunggay ice cream, which sounds scary at first, but is actually downright delicious. Other flavours that they have include calamay, peanut kisses, durian, guyabano, jackfruit, dragon fruit and spicy ginger. Don’t worry. If you’re scared to try out ‘weird’ flavours, they’ve got regular flavours to satiate your sweet tooth, as well.

5. Man-Made Forest

When driving from destination to destination, you might drive by the Man-Made Forest if you’re lucky. (Make sure to ask your driver or tour guide about it if you have one.) I swear: the place is like Forks (from Twilight) incarnate. Or, for non-Twilight fans like myself, it’s like Baguio brought to Bohol.

If you’re a fan of forests, high trees and nature, this is the ultimate stop-over for picture-taking. Just breathe in the air and enjoy the beauty that the man-made forest has to offer. It’s very Instagrammable, too! Unfortunately, this photo does not do it justice. We were only able to stop for 2 minutes and it was already dark. Still, it was definitely one for the books!
