Where they met: Tinder

How did you begin dating and how did it blossom?

“I just got out of a very toxic relationship and toxic dates haha I downloaded Tinder again because my officemate pressured me. I was the first to swipe right and we matched after 3 days. We honestly did not talk that much because [he’s] super torpe! We decided to meet just four days after and our date lasted for 9 hours!! That’s how it started. Two weeks into dating, I realized that he had become more than just a habit. We decided to become exclusive. He proposed to me two years after, in 2017, and got married in March 2019.”

How did you know that you have found “The One”?

“As cliche as it sounds, you just know eh. Let’s just say that I prayed for a God-fearing, family-oriented and a guy with principles and a short surname. Nico has all of those qualities. Well, except that part about the surname.”

When you went on the dating app, were you expecting to find love there?

“Nope. I just wanted to talk to someone with sense hahahaha I was looking for a travel buddy with no hanky panky. :p”

What would you tell people who don’t believe you can find love online?

“You can find love anywhere. Let life surprise you.”

5. Mae and Aleksi

Where they met: OkCupid

How did you begin dating and how did it blossom?

“It all started when a friend asked me if I had a boyfriend already, and when she found out that I was single she suggested that I try dating apps because she herself found the love of her life on OkCupid. I got really curious and at the same time thrilled to try it.

Fast forward, I installed the app. After 2 months of swiping, my now husband messaged me on OkC and asked me: “How’s the weather on the other side of the world?” Honestly, that time he messaged me I was about to delete the app because I felt like nothing serious was happening. So basically my husband was a buzzer beater for using his charm to get my number. We clicked instantly.

Everyday we had a new topic to talk about. There were no dry moments in our conversations, and it was then I realized I found the one for me. And as a strong, independent Filipina, I didn’t want my time to be wasted again. So I asked him if he wanted me to be his girlfriend. I told him that if he likes me, we better start dating because I didn’t want to waste another time talking to a random dude who’ll just ghost me eventually. And luckily, he said yes.”

How did you know that you have found “The One”?

“It took us time to say I love you because we both wanted to see if we really had that spark especially when we met in person. He visited me after six months. The moment our eyes locked when I picked him up at the airport, we both felt that spark. Fast forward, while we were on a trip in Palawan, he gave me a promise ring. He promised that he would marry me one day. Months after, he came back to the Philippines to ask me if I wanted to marry him. He didn’t kneel at first. He just put the ring on my back pocket and told me to check what’s inside. When I got the ring, I was completely speechless. It’s still a mystery to me how everything happened so fast. We got together after 3 months of talking, and we got married after more than a year of dating. ”

What would you tell people who don’t believe you can find love online?

“Not all people believe in finding love online. And I can say that it only works for those who are fearless and adventurous in trying new things. I understand that it’s really not easy—you’ll just believe when it happens to you.”

Where they met: Online

How did you begin dating and how did it blossom?

“We texted each other for a few months before meeting each other and then it grew from there. We started going on dates and got to know each other. I knew she was the one when I couldn’t see myself with anyone else.”

When you went on the dating app, were you expecting to find love there?

“No, not really. My cousin introduced me to a dating app and I didn’t take it too seriously at first, and would only use it sporadically. But I hated the idea of meeting someone at a bar/club, and I was always working, so I thought it might be the only way to meet someone at the time.”

What would you tell people who don’t believe you can find love online?

“Life is too short to not give it a chance. Why fish in a small pool?”
