Do you also suffer from occasional pimple breakouts?
Allow me to share with you my 5 tried and tested tips on how to effectively manage those pesky zits.
I’m one of those who have super oily skin and with the humid weather we have here in Manila, I have to make extra effort to keep my face smooth and zit-free by washing my face regularly and choosing certain make-up brands that are gentle to the skin and won’t clog my pores much.
Like most busy Pinoys, I don’t really follow a regular nightly skin regimen however over the years, I have been pretty happy with these tips which I will be sharing with you today for this is what I personally do and use in order to keep my face pimple free.
1. Ice cubes
Once I notice redness and swelling, I rush to the freezer to get ice cubes and immediately apply it on the infected spot to reduce inflammation. It helps improve blood circulation and tightens my pores. Make sure to wash your face first to avoid infection ok?
2. Steam
The more clogged your pores are, the more likely you’ll have pimples. That’s why steaming is also effective for it opens the pores and allows your skin to breathe. This process also helps get rid of oils, dirt and bacteria trapped in the pores that can cause infection or inflammation. All you need to do is get a container filled with hot water and allow steam to come in contact with your face for a few minutes. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and, after drying, apply an oil-free moisturizer.
3. Lemon or Calamansi Juice
In my experience, lemon and calamansi helps pimples dry up faster plus the Vitamin C it contains lightens up pimple scars. I actually learned this from my mom. Be sure to use fresh lemon juice and not the bottled ones, which has preservatives. Dip a clean cotton swab in fresh lemon/calamansi juice and apply it to the pimples before going to bed.
4. A dependable Anti-Acne Soap
A few months ago, I saw this photo on my Facebook wall and got really curious…..
I bought the AcneCare soap for 149php as well as a bottle of AceneCare capsules for 885php at Mercury Drugstore and gave it a try when I recently suffered from an acne breakout due to too much stress, dirt and sun exposure from my frequent travels.
For the AceneCare capsules, I took 2 capsules daily (after breakfast & dinner). After 2 weeks of regular capsule intake and use of soap, my pimples all dried up, plus I noticed my pores were tighter and more smooth n’ supple. Now, I take it with me whenever I travel and even recommend it to friends.
How to use:
wet face with warm water to open pores
With a bit of water, rub hands with soap and work up a lather until it forms a foam
Apply on face and massage it in a circular motion for about a minute. Leave for around 3 minutes for your face to fully absorb its ingredients
Use warm water to rinse your face, making sure to wash away all traces of your cleanser and scrub. Use a clean towel to pat your face dry. Try not to rub your face when you dry it, since this can encourage wrinkles and irritate the skin.

5. Consult a Dermatologist
Of course, it’s still best to regularly consult a doctor for any health concerns. Aside from regular washing and use of AcneCare soap and capsules, getting facials once or twice a month ensures that my face is safe from any nasty pimple breakouts. I’ve tried a couple of skin clinics and so far, I only trust and regularly visit 2 namely, Dr. Mary Ann Maninang of Skin Envy in my hometown Fairview in QC and Flawless in MegaMall or in SM Makati. They both give amazing and rejuvenating facials and I’m super happy with their services. I believe you really have to find a facial clinic that’s “hiyang” and fits your budget.
