Need a little more convincing? Here are 5 reasons why Monty Python’s Spamalot is definitely worth your time and money:

5.  It has received numerous awards.

Monty Python’s Spamalot has managed to garner a number of awards including the Tony Award for Best Musical, The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. If a show has an award, it’s probably worth watching. A show with three awards? Go watch it. Now.

4. It showcases Filipino talent.

The show is co-directed by Joel Trinidad and Nicky Triviño. Trinidad is an Aliw Awardee, a theater veteran, and the founder of Upstart Productions, while Triviño is a rising star in the world of theater. Both of them were nominated by Broadway World for Best Direction for last year’s production.

The show also stars multi-awarded actors and singers such as Rachel Alejandro, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, and Lorenz Martinez (who also starred in another internationally-acclaimed musical this year). These are just some of the notable people, but we can assure you that the whole cast, handpicked by Trinidad himself, will deliver beyond your expectations.

3. It’s unlike any musical you’ve ever watched.

Everything you’re looking for in a musical—the orchestra, the movements, the mandatory romantic duet—is all there. What makes this musical different is how they do it. Monty Python’s Spamalot puts its own twist on the traditional elements of musicals and the irony of it all is simply genius.

To give you a better picture, here’s a quote from Aliw Awardee Reb Atadero: “As trade actors, we’ve trained for years and this is how NOT to do it. It’s quite fun to do the right thing while doing the wrong thing.” Feel free to expect some twerking, and various pop culture references.

2. It’s adapted for the Filipino culture.

Trinidad and Triviño made sure that the Filipino audience will be able to relate to the scenes in the musical. Some changes from the original Broadway musical have been made to make sure that the viewers will fully enjoy the show. So you don’t have to worry about foreign jokes that won’t make sense to you. We guarantee that you will enjoy every single part of the show (because we sure did)!

1. It will surely make you laugh.

During an interview with Rachel Alejandro, we asked her why people should watch Monty Python’s Spamalot. She sums it up perfectly in just five words: “Everyone needs a good laugh.” Alejandro explains that this world has a lot of stressors and sometimes we just need something that’s purely positive; something we can get good vibes from. If you want something that will make your stomach ache from laughing, this is the show for you. In the words of Alejandro herself, “Kakabagan kayo.”

Alejandro plays the role of Lady of the Lake alongside Guevara-Laforteza. Alejandro and Guevara-Laforteza will be alternating between the shows. The opening show on April 13 will star Guevara-Laforteza and the closing show on April 22 will star Alejandro.
