5 Dishes You Should Think About Serving at Your Next Event

Written by Ching Balina

Filipinos take their celebrations seriously. Whether it’s for the bunso’s birthday party or the town fiesta, the hosts make sure the karaoke machines are brought out, the lechon is prepared, and the disposable cutleries are passed around. It’s not just these hometown celebrations that are taken seriously, either. Team buildings and company Christmas parties are also fun events that are looked forward to.

Arguably, though, the most important part of preparing for a major event is the food. Now, as much as we love our lechon and adobo, we still look for new dishes to serve our neighbors. Who doesn’t want a little bit of variety every now and then? So, if you’re on the hunt for some fresh dishes to serve at your next event, look no further because Party Toques has some platters perfect for your next party. Here are just some of them:

5 Dishes You Should Think About Serving at Your Next Event

5. Mac and Cheese

Whenever I watch my parents create a menu for a party, I notice that they always choose at least one dish for the kids. Well, even adults will enjoy this oh-so-cheesy and oh-so-gooey mac and cheese. As an appetizer, it gives you the right amount of sweetness to get your mouth watering for the main dishes. Even if you have it on the side of your chicken or beef, the mac and cheese won’t overpower the viand nor will it be overpowered.

4. Miso Baked Salmon

Amp up the taste of your salmon by going with this variation. The texture – soft and tender – holds the miso glaze nicely so that you get a burst of savoury flavor in every bite. There’s a pleasant kick of salt to look forward to. When this platter was served at our WIMtern Graduation party, it was a huge hit. One intern even described the texture as almost “melt-in-your-mouth.” Intriguing, right?

3. Beef Kebab

This dish is actually very versatile. You can have it in the soft taco shell that’s included in the package to recreate the classic Mexican dish to your own liking or as the main viand on your plate. It’s juicy, firm, and has a hint of spice that will make it a perfect pair to any side. The presentation is IG-worthy, too.

2. Grilled Liempo Salted Egg Fried Rice

Rice is a staple entry for every Filipino dining experience. If you want to add some excitement to your rice, though, why not go with this salty and savory hybrid? There’s a surprise in every bite, thanks to the liempo and salted egg bits.

It will surely be one of the most flavorful dishes you’ll ever have.

1. Chocnut Serradura

Nothing takes us back to the good old times better than a bite from a favorite childhood food. To round up all the dishes you’ve had so far, go for this sweet and creamy pudding-like creation. Serradura is a Portuguese dish that originally incorporated Marie biscuits (remember those?) in between layers of whipped cream. For this variant, you get the childhood favorite Chocnut in soft layers. It’s totally addicting!
