45 New COVID-19 Cases and 4th Recovery Confirmed in the Philippines; Total Cases Rise to 187

As of 12 noon today, March 17, the Department of Health (DOH) has reported 45 new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, bringing the total number up to 187.

In a statement, the DOH also confirmed that a fourth patient has recovered. He is a 31-year-old Filipino male from Negros Oriental who was among the repatriates from the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. He tested negative twice for COVID-19 as confirmed by Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital and will be discharged within the day.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III urged the public for their cooperation in doing their part to practice preventive measures and self-quarantine at home upon experiencing mild symptoms. “Now it is our turn to do our part in mitigating the spread of the disease,” he said. “The success of our measures to contain COVID-19 is hinged on your participation. We will get through this together.”
