It’s that time of the year again: the mid-year lull wherein we shamefully look back on January and ask ourselves whatever happened to those New Year Resolutions we were so sure of at the start. We promised ourselves we would be more productive, more responsible, have a better work ethic, etc. Six months in and, more likely than not, nothing has really changed.
This point of the year is the best time to change that. Everyone’s getting back from their vacations, classes are starting up again, and the lazy summer heat is finally making way for better (cooler) days. Just enough time is left in 2017 to make a difference and here are a few of tips to get you up and running:

I’m the type of person that gets frazzled easily. I have a tendency to become overwhelmed when my workload starts to pile up and there are a million distractions all over the place. A simple solution that works for me is to keep things in order. Anything from a simple ‘to-do’ list to an intricately mapped-out day-to-day schedule can maximize my productivity.
Keeping my things organized is another way to get my life on track. It used to take me hours to sit down and start on anything just because I would be running around looking for my pens, chargers, earphones, notebooks – you name it. If it wasn’t one thing, it was the other.
Trust me: knowing that your things are always there just waiting for you to start on your work is the best motivator to actually get off your butt and do something.

2. Keep The Essentials On Hand
If I had a dollar for every time I procrastinated my work just because I didn’t have the necessary materials on hand, well, I wouldn’t have to worry about work again. It’s just so easy to give in and say “oh I’ll do this at home when I have my laptop” or “I’ll finish this up later when I have all my art materials”. But the truth is, that ‘later’ is much longer than we imagine and we end up having to cram or compromise our work.
The laughably effortless answer to this — and I can’t believe it took me so long to figure it out — was simply to have everything I’d ever need with me at all times. By always stocking up on the essentials I’d never have an excuse to postpone my work. This strategy has done wonders for getting me to face up to my growing work pile and transform it from a mountain to a more manageable hill.

If all else fails, you always have the option of pretending your life isn’t one big mess. It seems to me that making it look like you have it all under control more often than not results in actually having it all under control.
As counter-intuitive as it may seem, my experience has taught me that focusing on the outward aspect can lead to an inner change. Getting an especially pretty pencil case or amazingly equipped wallet might just be what you need. It has others pegging you as the type that’s got everything figured out and it’ll have you believing (and being it), too.
