In today’s society, personal grooming is very essential when presenting oneself to other people whether they be friends, colleagues, or complete strangers. How you look can make or break your first impression.

Nowadays, it’s easy to feel confused by the overwhelming amount of products circulating the market. It’s hard to know which products are good for you and which ones are just a waste of money. The trick isn’t to spend a fortune on a thousand different products or to lock yourself in the bathroom for hours at a time. Rather, you should develop a daily routine that is simple and quick, ensuring that you do what’s best for your body. It is essential for a modern Filipino gentleman to cultivate these habits because they can go a long way when interacting with people you’ve never met before.

Presenting: ten easy grooming habits all men should get into.

10 Grooming Habits Every Man Should Know

10 | Don’t be a stranger at your local barbershop.

One of the first things people notice about you is your hair. Book an appointment at your barber’s every 3-4 weeks, and commit to it. Too many men wait for their hair to cover their ears or touch their eyes before doing anything about it, so it is essential to be proactive and have your hair cut regularly. Basically, if you’ve noticed your hair needs a cut, then other people have, too. See the supreme cut experience Spectre Manila has to offer here.

9 | Know when to use the appropriate hair products.

Now that your hair isn’t messy and disorderly, it is important to know the proper hair products to style your hair with. From waxes to gels to sprays, it can be confusing to know which product to use on your hair, so knowing the function of each product is crucial. Thicker hair and messy styles can handle waxes and pomades; but for thinner hair, lighter products and sprays will give your hair some definition. Don’t be afraid to ask your barber about the appropriate hair products because the right product can make all the difference with all the different hair problems you can encounter.

8 | Nail your hand-care routine.

Let’s face it: men and long nails do not belong together. Whether it be your fingernails or your toenails, cutting your nails once a week is basic. Tip: cutting your nails after a bath or shower is ideal because they are softened and easier to trim. However, if that rough skin around the nail bed irritates you, the best course of action would be to treat it with a tiny bit of moisturizer every couple of days to smooth things over.

7 | Trim the beard so you don’t look weird.

Unless you’re planning to move out into the wilderness to live as a hermit, any form of facial hair needs to be groomed and maintained if you want to be look presentable. You don’t have to spend much on razors and beard trimmers, so pick one up and get into a weekly habit of tidying up. Shave regularly to look your best by making sure your facial hair is trimmed neatly. Also make sure that you shave in the same direction as the growth of the hair, and that you soften your facial hair before shaving it. This will ensure that there aren’t any ingrowths and also reduce the possibilities of getting nicked while shaving.

6 | You’re never fully dressed without a smile.

When asked about the most attractive quality of a man, most women immediately answered “their smile”. This may sound like an obvious grooming habit, but most people forget to brush their teeth every day resulting in discolored and stained teeth. Brushing is all and good, but it only cleans about 60% of your teeth, so flossing is essential and it also helps dislodge food particles which lead to bad breath. And while you’re at it, use mouthwash after you brush first thing in the morning for that minty breath that’ll keep you fresh the entire day.
